GRAIN II Call for Proposals: EmpowerHerAI

Support for the scaling up of solutions that incorporate gender equality in the fields of agriculture, education and African languages

As part of the second phase of GRAIN (Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network), the «EmpowerHerAI» project – led by the consortium comprising IPAR, CSEA and Sunbird AI and funded by the IDRC – is supporting four innovative projects aimed at promoting inclusive, responsible and equitable AI in Africa.

The project aims to support existing innovations in artificial intelligence (AI) that effectively integrate gender and inclusion considerations in the fields of agriculture, STEM education, and the translation and promotion of African languages, and to jointly develop a GEDI framework.

Specifically, the aim is to support four (4) African solutions that have already been developed and require support to integrate GEDI principles during their scaling-up phase.

Support offered:

· Personalised technical support

· Support for the organisation and documentation of their GEDI process

· Access to a community of practice

· Support with scaling up

Eligibility criteria

· Be an African organisation (NGO, university, company, laboratory).

· Have an AI solution that is either operational or currently being tested in one of the three areas mentioned.

· Be able to work in French and/or English.

Applications from French-speaking Africa are encouraged.
