IPAR continues to implement the LUS project in pilot countries. After Senegal, Burkina Faso (CEDRES) and Benin (ACED), IPAR, in collaboration with CIRES (Centre Ivoirien des Recherches Économiques et Sociales), is organising a workshop from 21 to 24 June to train interviewers for the study on the level of development of artificial intelligence in Côte d'Ivoire.
The overall aim of the workshop is to train interviewers in data collection tools for players and potential players in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) in Côte d'Ivoire.
Specifically, the aim is to present the methodological aspects of the LUS survey (objectives, target populations, data collection strategy, etc.), to discuss the questionnaire in detail with the data collectors to ensure that they understand the methodological aspects of the survey and the data collection strategy, and to gather feedback to improve the data collection tools (questionnaire and data collection applications). Finally, this workshop will provide an opportunity to pre-validate the mapping of players and potential players in AI in Côte d'Ivoire.
As a reminder, the DUA project aims to generate knowledge on the political, legal, institutional and ethical frameworks related to AI in French-speaking African countries in order to inform policies and strategies for responsible AI. It therefore seeks to answer the following questions:
- How do current political, legal, institutional and ethical provisions deal with the emergence of new technologies such as AI? What shortcomings have been identified? How can these frameworks be modernised for responsible AI?
- How widely is AI being applied? In which sectors and fields? What are the existing technical capabilities and training needs?
- What are the conditions required to put in place an inclusive and sustainable framework, in particular for gender inclusion and/or equity, for the promotion and responsible use of artificial intelligence?
Answering these questions requires several activities to be carried out, in particular surveys of players (active in AI) and potential players (not yet active in AI) in the digital economy ecosystem in the project intervention area.
Mr Cheikh Faye, statistical engineer and coordinator of the DUA project, and Ms Ndeye Fatou Mboup, Big Data expert and research assistant at IPAR, are responsible for training the interviewers, in collaboration with the CIRES team, led by Dr BOUAFFON, Research Director, and Dr BOYÉ, CIRES researcher.
