Maria Nelago Kanyama

Maria Nelago Kanyama is a Namibian researcher specialising in the intersection of artificial intelligence, water management, public health and climate resilience. A PhD student in artificial intelligence and PMP®-certified, she develops solutions based on data and digital technologies to improve the sustainable management of resources and strengthen decision-making. Winner of the 2023 L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Young Talents Award for Sub-Saharan Africa, she was recognised for her work on the use of artificial intelligence to tackle water scarcity. Her research focuses in particular on machine learning, smart water distribution networks, anomaly detection and innovation at the interface between science, public policy and sustainable development.
