Timnit Gebru, a researcher in artificial intelligence and a specialist in technology ethics, is recognised for her work on algorithmic bias and discrimination in facial recognition systems. As co-founder of Black in AI, she campaigns for a more equitable and inclusive AI. Her research has helped to highlight the limitations of facial recognition technologies for people with darker skin. In 2022, the magazine Time ranked her among the world’s most influential figures.
