Sunbird’s strategic partnership with Cente-tech to harness AI for socio-economic development

As Artificial Intelligence continues to take centre stage, we are looking forward to the strategic partnership formalised on 6 July with Centenary Technology Services, a technology company within the Centenary Group that provides comprehensive technology solutions and delivers meaningful innovation to enable and inspire growth through ICT consultancy and research; ICT managed services and infrastructure; and ICT innovation and digital services.

This collaboration is aimed at tackling challenges to equality and inclusion through the adoption of artificial intelligence technology. Speaking at the signing ceremony, Dr Grace Ssekakubo, Chief Executive Officer at Cente-Tech, said, “The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) being signed aims to establish a framework for a successful partnership between Cente-Tech and Sunbird AI, with a view to creating sustainable, scalable projects and initiatives that will draw on Sunbird AI’s in-depth expertise to support Cente-Tech’s strategic ambitions to utilise modern ICT innovations for socio-economic development amongst the rural poor.”

He added, “With the Centenary brand’s reach of over 20 million Ugandans, we will help tackle social exclusion through the various artificial intelligence applications that Sunbird AI has developed and will develop as part of this collaboration.” Dr Ssekakubo said.

Dr Engineer Bainomugisha, Director at Sunbird AI, looks on as Dr Ernest Mwebaze, Executive Director at Sunbird, and Dr Grace Ssekakubo, Chief Executive Officer at Cente-Tech, sign the MOU.

According to our Executive Director, Dr Ernest Mwebaze, “Our partnership with Centenary Technology Services aims to capitalise on Cente-Tech’s extensive reach into hospitals and schools by developing AI for social good solutions that will have a positive impact on the lives not only of those who use the Centenary Group’s wide range of services, but of all Ugandans.”

The potential of AI-based technologies is enormous, and the benefits range from increased efficiency to unprecedented improvements in quality of life, particularly in promoting inclusion.
