As part of Phase II of the GRAIN (Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network) project, the YUX Cultural AI Lab has been selected to take part in the co-development of a GEDI (Gender – Equality – Diversity – Inclusion) matrix. This selection forms part of an initiative to support existing AI solutions with a view to integrating the principles of gender equality and inclusion in a structured manner.
The YUX project is in line with the «translation and promotion of African languages» priority area. Following initial work on a Wolof speech recognition (ASR) model applied to maternal health, the team will extend its research to Pulaar and document the integration of gender considerations at every stage of the innovation lifecycle.
This collaborative learning initiative between GRAIN and Yux aims to produce a contextualised GEDI matrix based on experiences in the field. Alongside other initiatives in agriculture and education, YUX will help to adapt international frameworks to African realities, define operational indicators and develop tools that can be replicated by other innovators.
Through this work, GRAIN is reinforcing its commitment to promoting high-performing, inclusive African AI that is rooted in the continent’s linguistic and social realities.
