The impact of AI on Africa’s development

We focus on gender and other context-related factors of exclusion, and their intersection with responsible AI. By responsible AI, we mean equity in the use of data, the creation of algorithms, frameworks for expertise, and policies governing AI practice. Our network addresses cross-cutting issues relating to AI, gender equality and development. The network focuses on sub-Saharan Africa, with a medium-term objective of gender inclusion and a longer-term objective of gender equality.

The GRAIN network is part of the AI4D programme, and its initial phase is supported by the International Development Research Centre in Canada and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
