Directory of Women in Artificial Intelligence in Africa

Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most dynamic and promising fields in an ever-changing world. However, the representation of women in this sector remains limited, particularly in Africa. That is why the Gender and Artificial Intelligence Network (GRAIN Network) is providing you with this directory, specially designed for women working in the field of AI in Africa.

The aim is to highlight the contributions of African women in the field of artificial intelligence by sharing their experiences, achievements and projects. Furthermore, this initiative aims to spark the interest of the next generation of women drawn to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). By promoting the successes and skills of women in the field of artificial intelligence, the GRAIN network aims to help bring about a shift in attitudes, fostering greater inclusion and creating an environment conducive to gender equality in the technology sector.

This directory is a valuable resource for stakeholders, enabling them to identify talent and thought leaders in the field of AI in Africa. It will also help to foster a community capable of transforming the landscape of artificial intelligence on the African continent.

The women featured in the GRAIN Network directory were selected on the basis of the following criteria:

Professional and academic background: training, specialisation and experience in the fields of artificial intelligence, data and related technologies.

Achievements and projects: concrete contributions, projects led or co-led, innovations developed, publications or solutions implemented.

Impact : the scope and impact of the actions undertaken on communities, organisations, public policy or technology ecosystems.

Activities and commitment: involvement in initiatives, programmes, networks, mentoring schemes, training or awareness-raising activities relating to AI.

Influence and leadership: the ability to inspire, bring people together and contribute to the dynamics and strategic debates within the artificial intelligence sector in Africa.

It should also be noted that this directory is not exhaustive.
