Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network (GRAIN) is organising a webinar on Wednesday 10 September from 10.30am to 12pm on the Zoom platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the theme of \"Agritech and women: what AI directions for greater inclusion?\", this virtual discussion aims to collectively reflect on the challenges and opportunities associated with integrating gender into digital and AI-based innovations in agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will provide an opportunity to present practical experiences, analyse the specific obstacles faced by women and explore inclusive strategies, and will provide a forum for dialogue and networking between researchers, farmers, gender experts and policy-makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moderated by Dr Marame Ciss\u00e9, gender expert at IPAR, the virtual event will bring together :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mutiat Olaitan MOHAMMED,<\/strong> Professor at Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria. An expert in microbiology, nanobiotechnology, teaching and research, she is currently acting coordinator of the research and innovation unit at the same university. She is in charge of the 'AI for women in aquaculture' (AI4WA) project, which is part of the first phase of the GRAIN project (for more details, click here): https:\/\/grain-africa.org\/en\/ia-for-women-in-aquaculture-ai4wa-2\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joel Nwaeze Nwakaire :<\/strong> Professor of Agricultural Technology and Renewable Energy Engineering, Department of Agricultural and Bioresource Engineering, University of Nigeria, Nsukka. He is also Senior Research Associate, African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS), Nairobi, Kenya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daouda SECK <\/strong>is an agricultural engineer and value chain expert. He has over five years' experience in promoting innovation at the intersection of technology, policy and rural transformation. As the United Nations Young Leader for Global Food Systems, he champions the voice of young change agents in building resilient and inclusive agri-food systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aboubakry Wade<\/strong> is an IT Manager with over 10 years' experience in France. He is the founder of Salsabile Farm, an agricultural start-up that operates a 2-hectare orchard at Nguekhokh in the Thi\u00e8s region. (Senegal)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of this webinar, participants should have a better understanding of the issues surrounding the inclusion of gender in AI-based innovations in agriculture; the main challenges and strategies to be implemented have been identified. The recommendations will feed into the development of the GEDI framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GRAIN is supported by a consortium of three African institutions (Ipar in Senegal, Sunbird in Uganda and CSEA in Nigeria) and funded by the IDRC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project aims to promote responsible and inclusive AI innovations designed to empower women and marginalised communities in sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
