The consortium (IPAR, Sunbird AI, CSEA) will officially launch the Network for Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence (GRAIN) on Monday 20 November 2023 at 10.00 GMT via Zoom, in the presence of partners and the wider AI and gender community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The establishment of GRAIN forms part of the Artificial Intelligence for Development in Africa (AI4D Africa) programme, with financial support from Canada\u2019s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, the GRAIN network aims to function as a \u00abspace for collaboration\u00bb bringing together local stakeholders with the necessary expertise, including for-profit and not-for-profit organisations, academia, government and the research sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The network will also help to contribute to the ongoing debate on the responsible development and local roll-out of AI innovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Held as a webinar, the launch will bring together experts in the fields of gender and AI, who are members of GRAIN, to explore in an innovative way the origins of the GRAIN network and how we can collectively reflect on sustainable collaborative practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this online meeting, we will take the opportunity to introduce the beneficiaries of GRAIN\u2019s call for proposals on \u00abImproving inclusion and gender equality through artificial intelligence in sub-Saharan Africa\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will take a participatory approach, featuring presentations, group discussions and Q&A sessions with the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the launch, it is expected that a framework for collaboration will be established for experts in the fields of gender and AI, with a view to addressing gender equality in the design and development of AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It should be noted that the network targets members of the IAPD Africa hubs and laboratories, digital sector stakeholders in the sub-Saharan region, researchers and gender specialists, digital and technology specialists, members of think tanks carrying out projects on AI and gender, and the general public<\/p>\n\n\n\n
