However, there is a wide gender gap within the aquaculture value chain, and women\u2019s involvement is most evident in post-harvest activities, which are generally less profitable. Men, on the other hand, tend to dominate fishing activities, which are generally more lucrative. The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) techniques in aquaculture will ensure gender equity, diversity and inclusion whilst minimising unintentional bias and providing numerous opportunities for women. The project will therefore focus on evaluating and analysing the applications of AI techniques in aquaculture systems, and on a critical gender analysis of the use of AI in aquaculture systems, through extensive data collection, scoping studies, a gap analysis and engagement with stakeholders and policy-makers to develop innovative recommendations.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide\"><strong>Project implementation area:<\/strong> Nigeria<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide\"><strong>Project manager\u2019s name<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:28% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/grain-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Mutiat-Olaitan-MOHAMMED.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19095 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mutiat Olaitan MOHAMMED<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She is a proactive, results-oriented team player and an advocate for the circular economy and the transformation of waste into wealth. With over fifteen (15) years\u2019 professional experience, her expertise spans the fields of microbiology, nanobiotechnology, teaching and research.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mutiat has extensive experience in contributing to and presenting research papers on the recovery of agricultural waste. She is currently acting coordinator of the Research and Innovation Unit at Summit University in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a researcher, Ms Mutiat\u2019s dedication to research and innovation in nanobiotechnology has earned her recognition both nationally and internationally.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide\"><strong>Team members&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:27% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/grain-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Capt123.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19280 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Abiodun Musa AIBINU (PhD),<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is an \u201cAcadoPreneur\u201d with over 24 years\u2019 experience in the fields of mechatronics engineering, teaching and research.\u00a0 He is currently Vice-Chancellor, Director-General and Academic Head of Summit University in Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria, and Professor of Mechatronics Engineering at the Federal University of Technology (FUT) in Minna.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Until now, he had been head of the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Federal University of Technology (FUT) in Minna.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Aibinu has taken part in and won several academic and research awards at various international and national exhibitions. Notably, these include the Promising Researcher Award and the Best Teacher Award at IIUM Malaysia, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Research and Development Award in 2017 and 2019, and the SERVICOM Award for Excellence from the Federal University of Technology, Minna. In 2021, he was one of the recipients of the Vice-Chancellor\u2019s Award for Excellence. He has also secured several research grants both within and outside Nigeria. He is the author and co-author of several publications in local and international journals and conference proceedings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:27% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/grain-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Abdulwaheed-MUSA-PhD.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19092 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Abdulwaheed MUSA (PhD)&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is an academic with experience in research, teaching, consultancy and management, specialising in the fields of wireless communications, renewable energy systems, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Musa is Director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Systems (CAMS) and Deputy Director of the Centre for Technical, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training (CTVET), having previously served as Founding Director of the Centre for Telecommunication Research and Development (CTRD) at Kwara State University (KWASU) in Malete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nominated for the award for best PhD student, Dr Musa holds a mini-MBA from the Tekedia Institute in Boston, USA. Between February 2017 and January 2020, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Intelligent Systems at the University of Johannesburg (one of the flagship institutes and strategic pillars driving South Africa and the African region towards the Fourth Industrial Revolution), where he now holds the position of Senior Research Associate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has been awarded academic scholarships, prizes and research grants, and has published more than sixty (60) articles in prestigious journals.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:27% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/grain-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Sakinat-FOLORUNSHO-PhD.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19093 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sakinat FOLORUNSHO (PhD)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She is a member of the research management team at Globalisation Accessibility Innovation and Care (GAIC), a research network comprising Leiden University, Tilburg University, the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS), Leiden University Medical Centre (LUMC), Addis Ababa University and Mekelle University. She is the Nigerian ambassador for Women in AI (WAI), team lead for IndabaX Nigeria, national co-director and board member of the Virus Outbreak Data Network (VODANA), and a member of Women in Music Information Retrieval (WiMIR). She is the author and co-author of over 50 publications on artificial intelligence. She is an expert in the development of responsible artificial intelligence systems.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:27% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/grain-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Ganiyat-Kemi-AFOLABI-YUSUF.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19096 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ganiyat Kemi AFOLABI-YUSUF<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>She <\/strong>is an academic and researcher in the field of computer science. She currently holds the post of coordinator of the Innovation and Advanced Sciences Research Group at Summit University, Offa, in Kwara State, Nigeria. In addition to her role as coordinator, she is team leader for the data science network within the campus community at Summit University, Offa (SUN, Offa). Ganiyat graduated with a degree in computer science, with first-class honours, from the University of Ilorin in Nigeria. She continued her academic career by obtaining a Master of Science with distinction in Computer Science, also at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria. Throughout her career, Ms Ganiyat has been actively involved in various professional associations and has held leadership positions in a number of capacities. She is currently a certified member of the Computer Professional Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN), serves as coordinator of the Innovation and Advanced Sciences Research Group (IASRG), leads the Computer Science and Innovation Research Group (CIRG) as team leader, and spearheads the Summit University DSN (SUNO DSN) academic community as team leader. She has won several awards and secured numerous scholarships and grants.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:27% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/grain-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Taliha-Abiodun-FOLORUNSO.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19097 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Taliha Abiodun FOLORUNSO<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is a member of the academic staff in the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna). He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering, specialising in artificial intelligence and control, from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, and a Master\u2019s degree in Mechatronics and Automatic Control Engineering from the prestigious Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Malaysia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Taliha Abiodun FOLORUNSO also holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the renowned Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomosho, Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is currently a principal researcher at the Advanced Engineering Innovation Research Group (AEIRG) (www.aeirg.com.ng), specialising in control, robotics, automation, embedded systems development and artificial intelligence, as well as precision agriculture.\u00a0 Deputy Director of the International Centre for Emerging Technologies (ICET), Federal University of Technology, Minna.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:27% auto\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/grain-africa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/Ibrahim-Akinola-Salawu.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-19098 size-full\"\/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Ibrahim Akinola Salawu&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is a researcher, lecturer, presenter and resource facilitator. He obtained a bachelor\u2019s degree in political science and public administration from Fountain University in Osogbo, as well as a master\u2019s degree from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He is currently a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Summit University in Offa, Kwara State, and is currently coordinating the department\u2019s activities. His areas of research include gender and minority studies, democracy and elections in African politics.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also joined the research group on innovation and scientific progress at Summit University in Offa and was an active member of the university\u2019s successful grant proposal, funded by the UK\u2019s Royal Academy of Engineering (RAENG), on \u201cartificial intelligence for women in STEM\u201d and the AI4WA project, funded by GRAIN.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide\"><strong>Institution<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Summit University, Offa (SUN Offa), based in Kwara State, Nigeria, is a leading institution in the country, offering a diverse range of programmes, with a particular focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">SUN Offa specialises in areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, cyber security, data science, drone technology, media technology and mass communication.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The university is committed to gender diversity and inclusion.
