The beneficiaries come from six universities, a public interest research consortium, an NGO and a not-for-profit organisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The selected projects cover the following subjects&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gender and voice technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Epistemic justice; diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI); science, technology and society studies (STS), and public policy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Economic development research, economic regulation, gender, public policy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Research into artificial intelligence (AI) and computer justice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Artificial intelligence and precision farming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agricultural technology transfer, gender and rural development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>&nbsp;Artificial intelligence, computer vision, natural language processing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Natural Language Processing (NLP) Big Data Analysis, Human Data Mining<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The teams come from the following institutions:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Makerere University (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mak.ac.ug\/\">https:\/\/www.mak.ac.ug\/<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Core23lab (<a href=\"https:\/\/core23lab.org\/\">https:\/\/core23lab.org\/<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Centre for Africa Epistemic Justice (<a href=\"https:\/\/epistemic-justice.org\/\">https:\/\/epistemic-justice.org\/<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Data Economy Policy Hub (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dataeconomypolicyhub.org\/\">https:\/\/www.dataeconomypolicyhub.org\/<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summit University (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.summituniversity.edu.ng\/home.php\">https:\/\/www.summituniversity.edu.ng\/home.php<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dkut.ac.ke\/\">https:\/\/www.dkut.ac.ke\/<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kwara State University ( <a href=\"https:\/\/mykwasu.kwasu.edu.ng\/\">https:\/\/mykwasu.kwasu.edu.ng\/<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>American College of Technology (ACT) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.actamericancollege.com\/\">https:\/\/www.actamericancollege.com\/<\/a>)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Debre Markos University (http:\/\/www.dmu.edu.et\/)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The call for proposals, which was launched in October 2022, invited projects looking at the use of AI to address issues of gender inclusion and equity in Sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The selected teams join the Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network (GRAIN) in Africa, a network of individual researchers, research and advocacy organisations, social innovators and think tanks. The GRAIN network is led and facilitated by a consortium of strong and innovative research institutions made up of IPAR (Initiative Prospective Agricole et Rurale), CSEA (Centre d'Etude des \u00c9conomies d'Afrique) and Sunbird AI. The Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network (GRAIN) is a research network on artificial intelligence for gender equality and inclusion.
