IPAR delegation at the AfricAI conference in Kigali<\/strong><\/p>\n

The IPAR Think Tank will be represented at the AfricAI conference (12\u201314 June 2023) by a strong delegation comprising Dr Laure Tall, the institution\u2019s Director of Research; the GRAIN project coordinator, Tabara Korka Ndiaye, and Cheikh Faye, DUA project coordinator. They will take part in and lead the following activities<\/p>\n

  1. Panel: Political challenges of AI in Africa \u2013 Boosting engagement amongst African decision-makers:\u00a0<\/strong>In order to place Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Africa at the heart of cross-cutting discussions on development issues, and to support policy change, the involvement and commitment of decision-makers must be supported by highlighting the importance of AI in everyday life and the challenges associated with this topic.<\/li>\n
  2. Mapping the network landscape for responsible AI and gender equality in sub-Saharan Africa:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>The Grain network will hold an interactive workshop on mapping the landscape of networks for responsible AI and gender equality in sub-Saharan Africa. During this session, participants will share their current networking activities and connections relating to responsible AI and gender equality in sub-Saharan Africa; identify challenges and constraints; and collaboratively map the landscape of networking and knowledge-sharing. The workshop will conclude with the joint identification of three next steps to improve knowledge-sharing within the African responsible AI community.<\/li>\n
  3. Panel: Sub-regional and continental dynamics: What are the challenges for responsible AI in Africa?\u00a0<\/strong>This panel will provide an opportunity to discuss certain French-speaking countries in West Africa, with a focus on the initiatives undertaken to address the issues, challenges and ongoing processes involved in developing a strategy to promote the responsible development of AI.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
