{"id":20708,"date":"2026-02-23T16:32:02","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T15:32:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grain-africa.org\/?p=20708"},"modified":"2026-02-23T16:32:04","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T15:32:04","slug":"grain-and-dipper-lab-collaborate-to-develop-gedi-framework-for-siwa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/grain-africa.org\/en\/grain-and-dipper-lab-collaborate-to-develop-gedi-framework-for-siwa\/","title":{"rendered":"GRAIN and DIPPER Lab Collaborate to Develop GEDI Framework for SIWA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network (GRAIN) has partnered with DIPPER Lab under the Artificial Intelligence for Development (AI4D) programme to develop a Gender Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (GEDI) framework for the Smart Indigenous Weather App (SIWA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This collaboration, funded through EmpowerHerAI \u2013 Advancing Gender Equality and Responsible AI in Sub-Saharan Africa via GRAIN, will be implemented through the ObaaSIWA project, a gender-focused initiative aimed at strengthening the capacities of female farmers within the SIWA study area to make accurate short-term rainfall predictions by integrating indigenous weather forecasting methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project seeks to empower women as key actors in climate resilience by improving access to hyper-local, accessible, and culturally relevant weather information, enhancing agricultural decision-making among female farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the initiative, a GEDI framework will be developed to guide the inclusive design and use of SIWA, ensuring that gender and social inclusion considerations are embedded throughout the application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project is led by Prof. Eric Tutu Tchao, Scientific Director of DIPPER Lab.
