This World Telecommunication and Information Society Day marks the 160th anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the telegraph to radio, from the Internet to artificial intelligence, technology has transformed the way we live, work and communicate. But its benefits remain profoundly uneven. This year's focus on gender equality in digital transformation is both timely and urgent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All over the world, algorithmic biases are reinforcing old prejudices. Online harassment and abuse silence women's voices and drive them off the web. What's more, women and girls remain vastly under-represented in the fields that are shaping our future: science, technology, engineering and mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This injustice harms us all. We cannot accept a digital future that leaves half of humanity behind. We must urgently invest in digital skills for all; harness the potential of technology to improve women's lives; remove barriers to their full participation and leadership in the technology sector; and continue our efforts to eradicate gender-based violence in all its forms, online and offline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pact for the Future and the Global Digital Pact offer a path to bridge all digital divides and strengthen collaboration in favour of women's rights online. Let's embark on this path together and help make digital transformation a driver of progress, inclusion and equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When technology serves everyone, everyone wins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
