The Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence Network (GRAIN) is organising a webinar on \"Gender and Responsible Artificial Intelligence\". Artificial intelligence for productive and sustainable agriculture: integrating gender perspectives and strengthening the role of women<\/strong> \". The virtual meeting will take place on Monday 21 October 2024 from 3pm GMT on the Zoom platform (REGISTER HERE<\/a>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As agriculture is one of the key sectors for economic development in the region, the application of AI in this area offers significant opportunities for improving productivity, sustainability and social inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, gender issues in the use of AI in agriculture are still largely underexplored. It is crucial to understand how AI innovations can be used to reduce gender inequalities and strengthen the role of women in the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The aim of this online event is to raise awareness and inform stakeholders about the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of AI in agriculture, with a particular focus on the impact of these technologies on gender equality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 Specifically, the aim will be to present concrete cases of the use of AI in agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa, to disseminate the results of the GRAIN project through the projects funded by the network in this area, to discuss the specific challenges faced by women in accessing and using AI technologies in agriculture; to explore strategies and solutions for integrating gender issues into agricultural AI projects and, above all, to encourage networking and the sharing of experiences between stakeholders in the field, in particular researchers, farmers, gender experts and policy-makers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moderated by Dr Laure Tall, Director of Research at the IPAR, the virtual event will bring together :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Angella Ndaka<\/strong> specialising in sociology and gender studies at the University of Otago, New Zealand, whose research has focused on the sustainable techno-futures of artificial intelligence (AI). She is also the lead researcher on a project entitled \"Digitalisation for Mama Mboga: do women's engagement and inclusion in Agri-tech AI matter? The experience of women in the informal agricultural sector in Kenya\". Find out more<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Olayinka Jelili Yusuf<\/strong> specialising in agricultural extension, rural sociology and agricultural technology transfer, gender and rural development. Mr Yusuf is currently Associate Professor at Kwara State University, and Research Director of the Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development (AI4SARD) research network. He leads the AI for women in agriculture e - AI4WIA project. Find out more<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mutiat Olaitan MOHAMMED<\/strong> leader of the \"AI for women in aquaculture\" (AI4WA) project Find out more<\/a> . An expert in microbiology, nanobiotechnology, teaching and research, she is currently Acting Coordinator of the Research and Innovation Unit at Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Abdou Kader Tour\u00e9<\/strong> who is an expert in Artificial Intelligence and technical advisor in data economics at the GIZ in Senegal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The webinar is expected to provide a better understanding of the current and potential applications of AI in agriculture, identify the main barriers to the inclusion of women in agricultural AI initiatives, develop recommendations to promote the inclusive use of AI in the agricultural sector and create new connections between participants, fostering future collaborations on the themes of AI, agriculture and gender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The webinar is aimed at a wide range of participants, including researchers and academics specialising in AI and agriculture, gender and inclusive development experts, stakeholders in the agricultural sector (cooperatives, farmers, agri-food businesses), policy-makers and government representatives, non-governmental organisations and international bodies involved in agricultural and technological development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This webinar is part of the GRAIN project's ongoing efforts to promote the responsible and inclusive use of artificial intelligence in sub-Saharan Africa. It will provide a platform for constructive dialogue and exchange of ideas that will help shape the future of agriculture in Africa, while strengthening gender equality.<\/p>\n
